The AI Yat Siu: He Is Really Chinese

Yat Siu is the senior manager of more than 400 companies, partnerships, and ventures. He has some interesting connections to Telegram. I have mentioned these in my invited lectures and in my writing about Pavel Durov's Telegram platform.

The subtitle is interesting; to wit:

A family of systems builders from lexicography to the blockchain.

What caught my attention was Yat Siu's direct statement about the biographical and genealogical snapshot of his family.

This is a story written by Animoca Minds, an Agentic AI system in partnership with Ethoswarm using the Genealogy research skill “Agentic_Genealogy_Research” (ID: A22DE926-A924-F111-AD1D-0EA9A5017E89). I did not edit the below AI writeup and present it entirely as is. Its style is somewhat dramatic in its story telling but the historical facts are true as it relates to my ancestors and the historical discoveries were in many cases a surprise to myself in terms of my own family history!

What jumps out are two points. First, Mr. Siu is obviously quite proud of his Animoca AI property. The smart software created a complete biography of Yat Siu. If no human editor were involved in the process, Minds.ai seems to do a reasonably good job of supporting my second point: Yat Siu is really Chinese.

The China link is important because Mr. Siu was born in Austria and educated at Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. According to the Minds.ai biography:

Yat Siu was drawn to systems — specifically, to the systems that were about to eat the world. In the 1980s, while still a teenager, he began working with computers and MIDI software on an Atari, merging the musical training his mother had given him with the computational logic he was teaching himself.

The structure of the AI-generated biography is that DNA of the family produced:

1. The Sichuan education commissioner
2. A relative (Wang Yun-wu) invented an indexing method for ideographs and wrote the Wanyou Wenku or the Comprehensive Library (a Chinese version of an Encyclopedia Britannica-type of compilation of information).
3. A minister of finance
4. Seven Ph.D.s
5. A diplomat
6. An opera luminary.

The present day Mr. Siu started working with computers in the 1980s. The AI biography points out:

He moved to Hong Kong, worked for Atari, then founded Outblaze, a pioneer in cloud-based messaging and web services, eventually selling its messaging business to IBM. He went on to co-found Animoca and Animoca Brands, building one of the most influential companies in the Web3 ecosystem — a firm dedicated to the proposition that digital property rights are the civil-rights struggle of the internet (sic) age. There is a line — not perfectly straight, but unmistakable — from a village in Zhongshan to the blockchain.

Unmistakable? Until the Minds.ai write up, who knew about this DNA chain outside the family?

The AI did reference Taiwan four times, a fact that might come up in some discussions with colleagues at HKSTP or the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. Mr. Siu signed a deal with flagship state-backed research, innovation, and technology hub housing over 17,000 research professionals. Mr. Siu via Animoca at the Minds.ai entity to host Build East. This is an event designed to identify prospects for direct funding and incubation under Animoca's Minds Investment Program. This deal was signed in June 2026, and Animoca committed ten million US dollars to this incubation effort.

Alongside the HKSTP partnership, Animoca Brands and its subsidiary The Sandbox launched some Hong Kong-only initiatives. The "Creative Minds Jam #1, Hong Kong" will offer grants and prize pools to developers building autonomous AI agents on the Minds.ai platform.

The biography begs several questions:

1. Is the biography's purpose to showcase the narrative capabilities of the Minds.ai system?
2. Is the essay's purpose designed to provide factual evidence via genealogical "family tree" that Mr. Siu is really Middle Kingdom Chinese or huayi, not a xiangjiao ren. One of these is more positive than the other, according to my team. I cannot translate these, so you are on your own.
3. Is biography part of a campaign to apply Silicon Valley-style funding to prospects who are Chinese, southeast Asian, and Hong Kongese (if this is still a valid term)?

Why is this important amidst the content on Telegram Notes? I am including Mr. Siu because he has "sold" one of his online properties to the Telegram-centric, publicly-traded company called Alpha Compute, né AlphaTON Capital. Also, the current president of the TON Foundation worked in one of Mr. Siu's Web 3 ventures called Moonpay. Finally, Mr. Siu's more than 400 "investments" provide many of the same services and functions as those found within the pre-arrest Telegram. Since Mr. Durov's brush with the French judiciary, Telegram's fortunes have declined.

My question is, "What is Mr. Siu's strategic plan?" I don't have an answer, and his biography does not provide much beyond the interest in blockchain and the interaction with the Chinese government-linked Hong Kong HKSTP and the Alpha Capital entity with its ties to the Russian financial whiz Yuri Mitin. I find Animoca an intriguing firm.

And Mr. Siu? He has many skills, including a mastery of the flute.
